Pollarding

A classic tree management technique.

When necessary, pollarding entails drastically cutting the tree, frequently to just a few metres high, from which shoots re-grow with remarkable tenacity. When performed regularly, it can be an efficient approach to significantly reduce a tree’s size while maintaining it and leaving it in a controllable state.

Crown Reduction

Crown reduction is measured in metres, lowering the crown can be 2–3 metres as an example.  This aids in reducing the crown’s overall size and volume while preserving its natural balance and contour.

Crown Lifting

To increase clearance below, the lower parts of a tree are removed. Due to specific height clearances, work is frequently done on trees around roadways. It is also a cost-efficient and practical approach to increase the amount of light beneath garden trees.

Dismantling and Removal

A last resort but sometimes necessary for safety or to prevent damage to buildings.

Woodland Management- Coppicing

An ancient practise of managing woodlands called coppicing takes advantage of the ability of many types of trees to grow new shoots from their stumps or roots if cut down.

Young tree stems are continuously cut down to almost ground level in a coppiced wood, also known as a copse, creating a stool. After a period of time the coppiced tree is cut, and the process is restarted. New growth then appears.

Coppicing keeps trees at an early stage, preventing them from dying of old age and allowing them to live to incredibly ancient ages.

Woodland Management – Thinning

When the trees are 10 to 15 years old, they start competing with one another for nutrients, sunlight, and room, which slows the development rate.

Thinning allows for a more varied woodland structure by ensuring that the most robust trees develop faster.
