Are you thinking about sprucing up your garden this year?
Here’s our list of the top 5 Garden Trends for 2023.
Are you thinking about sprucing up your garden this year? If so, you’re in luck.

Garden Trends Prediction 1: Soft Landscaping
The RHS predicts the rising cost of building materials will force gardeners to move away from hard landscaping to soft landscaping for their garden design.
As a result, green walls, lawns and hedges are becoming popular garden trends over the traditional mix of grey and beige fencing and concrete.
‘Soft landscaping’ is focused on conserving your garden’s natural elements – weeds and flowers, for example – can be maintained instead of removed.
For homeowners in new builds – often with smaller gardens – soft landscaping gives you the ability to have a diverse garden design without installing any (or much) hard landscaping such as patios, decks, etc. See how T&T Earthmatters can help add a magic touch to your garden.

Garden Trends Prediction 2: Tapestry Lawns
A tapestry lawn – as pictured – is a lawn consisting entirely of low-growing flowering plants. Not a blade of grass to be seen.
Tapestry lawns are a worthy contender for our Garden Trends list; great at adding variety to your garden design.
They’re generally more aesthetically pleasing, allowing for added colour variation, texture and height.

Garden Trends Prediction 3: Environmentally Conscious Compost
The upcoming ban on Peat in 2024 is one example of the environmentally-conscious Garden Trends we predict gardeners will follow going into 2023; due to the amount of CO2 it releases into the atmosphere.
As an alternative, regenerative gardening uses composts from wood, seaweed or biochar feeds.

Garden Trends Prediction 4: Drought-Resilient Gardens
2022 was one of the warmest summers on record globally. It saw flowers and lawns fry under the intense heat.
A great prediction for garden trends in 2023 is that gardeners will begin to focus on future-proofing their spaces. Plants like choisya and cape fuchsia are well known to tolerate periods of drought. Their leaves are leathery and retain moisture well. Also utilising gravel to minimise future watering, you can create a beautiful, lasting space.

Our Final Trend Prediction: Herb Gardens
With this year’s theme of preserving the environment, we also predict there will be a focus on herb gardens as an alternative to single-use, plastic-packeted, shop-bought herbs.
In the Autumn of 2022, the RHS reports searches for herbs were up 600% compared to 2021.
Growing any herb of your choice is cheap and (extremely) easy to do. They can sit on your windowsill from March until April and outside from April until August.
Herbs are hardy and won’t require as much tender care as you may think.
